You know it's not the same as it was...

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

As the new Australian Cricket season is on the horizon, I am excited and looking forward what's in stock for St.Anthony's Cricket club this 2023/24 season. The club has seen a lean period since mid 2019/20 season due to COVID surfacing, and put a brake on the clubs momentum. Since then we have had no sponsorships, struggled with playing numbers, which has directly impacted the competitive enthusiasm within the playing circle and the clubs performance declined considerably.

But it is not all that discouraging, while the juniors teams did taste some success, with U11s reaching semi-finals in 2021/22 and U13s boys reached semi-finals in past season 2022/23. The club took a very conscious decision to break the shackles and reappoint a new core committee team, so the newly appointed committee can bring-in fresh ideas and rejuvenate the clubs performance.

And so the reason I choose the words "You know it's not the same as it was..." from Harry Styles popular single, as we are all looking forward for a fresh start for this season 2023/24. This season also brings on other aspects which is not the same as it was... Cricket Victoria has moved from MyCricket to PlayHQ as the competition management platform, and the Victorian clubs are hussling to get into new setup. Hoping things will fall in place at the right time for our club, while we are still reaching out to wider business community for sponsorships.

Nonetheless, new season, new platform, new challenges, new prospects.... expecting a cracker of an season.

Both our senior men's teams have home a final at Arnold's Creek, and it would be great to see as many past players and supporters come...
